SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

At Advanced Physiotherapy in White Rock, we offer shockwave therapy as part of our extensive physical therapy treatment plans. Shockwave therapy has been shown to help with numerous soft tissue disorders by stimulating the body’s natural self-healing process. When recommended by a physiotherapist, this non-invasive treatment option can be used to treat a variety of tendon, muscle, or joint disorders.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

Shockwave therapy is a highly effective treatment for chronic pain conditions. During treatment, we use a specially calibrated tool to direct acoustic waves at the area of concern through the skin via a gel medium. The waves of energy cause a break down of dysfunctional tissue in the area and increase blood flow. Through the use of shockwaves, the body can create new connective tissue, tighten tendon tissue, and inhibit pain. Many patients of shockwave therapy treatments experience a reduction in pain very quickly after treatment.

Benefits of shockwave therapy include:

:

  • No medication or anesthesia required for treatment

  • Non-invasive treatment

  • Fewer side-effects for most patients

  • Positive effects for both acute and chronic pain

Some patients may experience mild soreness or tenderness following a shockwave therapy procedure. This is a normal and expected side-effect as your body responds to the shockwave treatments. At the time of treatment, we will discuss with you any concerns regarding the treatment that you may have.
